The crazy unexpected success of my “Once upon a time in algebra class…” cartoon on Facebook and Twitter told me it’s time to come out of the shadows, so here we are. A cartoon that goes viral is an exhilarating ride. But when the gag itself is about the math of a viral pandemic, it is quite the meta experience. If over 38,000 shares on my Facebook page wasn’t enough, rock star astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson posted it to add over 71,000 more shares. Mind blown into orbit and beyond! T-shirts, posters, mugs and magnets of this hit cartoon are available. You can choose the classroom friendly PG-rated caption: “Like we’ll ever use this STUFF” instead of the edgier term.
